~5th April 2010~
Arrived at Zaidun-Leeng Sdn. Bhd. about 8.10am and went to the reception counter to report myself. Met with Ms. Josephine (account department) to get my access card (same as UNITEN ID where I have to tag in and out of the building to record my 'attendance').
Then, went to Infrastructure Department to report to Ir. Lim Guan Hock, Director of Infra Department. Ir. Lim brief us what I will get learn from this industrial training and then requested Ir. Peter Lim (an associate) to give me things to do and learn from it. Was then introduced to another engineer, Mr. Law Lok Heng. I will be helping Mr. Law on his on-going project includes Landfill, Double-Storey Terrace Housing, and much more. First thing I did was to design a RC Sump.
~6th April 2010~
2nd day, was requested to use AutoCAD to input borehole points of a site. Later was given a set of soil investigation test result to read through it, the SI method they used is the Soil Replacement Test and Field Density Test (FDT). Quickly finished it then went to help up another trainee with the cargo plane hanger project in Pulau Penang. We determine the ponding area of the hanger and calculate the area of it. It was simple but it takes time to complete it as we are not using any software to determine, all by hand and pen.
~7th April 2010~
Continue with the cargo plane hanger project, Ir. Lim requested us to draw a few cross section of the critical area to illustrate the level of ponding area. Later continue with the sump design which did'nt manage to complete it on monday.
~8th April 2010~
Started with identifying the cut and fill area which need on a hill top double-storey terrace houses on a contour layout plan, then transfer into the AutoCAD drawing by marking the cut/fill area with red and blue '-' & '+' signs. Then was asked to do correction of a double-storey house structural drawings using red pen. I learn how to read a structural drawing from it as well.
~9th April 2010~
Continue with the double-storey terrace houses structural drawings. After identifying the errors in the drawings, I was requested to check the beam and column of the structure to determine is over-design or otherwise. Minimum beam dimension usually used is 150mm x 300mm and steel bar of T12 for main reinforcement. I checked the beam which is not the minimum size to determine whether it needed such larger beam size. To determine it, I was told to identify the load distribution on the beam then calculate the moment and shear the beam is carrying and then check the beam size and steel bars size. If can reduce the size is better as it will reduce the overall construction cost.
*End of 1st week, holiday for 2 days ^^
